Plaid incurred unexpected downtime in 2022. A root cause analysis determined that databases amounted to 50% of the problem. However, despite some success, the company could not eliminate downtime in Amazon Aurora MySQL. Even worse, AWS announced a forced upgrade from MySQL 5.7 to 8.0. These two factors became the catalyst for TiDB adoption.

He shares Plaid’s migration methodology, efficiency optimizations, and lessons learned. By examining a single service’s journey, he also identifies successful strategies and areas for improvement, providing attendees with insights for accelerated TiDB adoption within their own organization.
