Introduction:

Apache Pulsar is a cloud-native, distributed messaging and streaming platform that manages hundreds of billions of events per day. Originally, Pulsar was developed and deployed inside Yahoo. It was the consolidated messaging platform that connected critical Yahoo applications such as Yahoo Finance, Yahoo Mail, and Flickr, to data. In 2016, Yahoo contributed Pulsar to the open source community, and in 2018 it became a top-level Apache Software Foundation project.

TiDB is a distributed relational database with a Hybrid Transactional and Analytical Processing (HTAP) architecture. It can support both Online Transaction Processing (OLTP) and Online Analytical Processing (OLAP) workloads.

In this meetup, Sijie Guo will first walk you through the Apache Pulsar architecture, its benefits and use cases. Then, Li Shen will share how TiDB could work with streaming systems like Pulsar to build an online data service, and he’ll show a demo built with Pulsar and TiDB, “Real-time Github Contribution City 2022.” (https://live.ossinsight.io/)

Apache Pulsar PMC Member, Co-Founder and CEO at StreamNative

Sijie Guo is the co-founder and CEO of StreamNative. StreamNative is a real-time data infrastructure startup offering a cloud-native event streaming platform powered by Apache Pulsar. Prior to StreamNative, he co-founded Streamlio. Before Streamlio, he worked for Twitter as the tech lead for the messaging infrastructure group, where he co-created DistributedLog and Twitter EventBus. Before Twitter, he worked on the push notification infrastructure at Yahoo!. He is also the VP of Apache BookKeeper and a Project Management Committee (PMC) member of Apache Pulsar.

Li Shen
Senior Vice President, PingCAP

Li Shen is the SVP of PingCAP. PingCAP is the company behind TiDB, an open-source distributed SQL database. He is an expert in distributed systems, relational databases, and cloud computing. He has worked at PingCAP for seven years and is maintainer of the TiDB project.
