SUNNYVALE, Calif., August 1, 2025PingCAP, the creator of the open source distributed SQL database TiDB, has been peer-recognized as a Customers’ Choice in the 2025 Gartner® Peer Insights™ Voice of the Customer for Cloud Database Management Systems.

Gartner defines the market for cloud database management systems (DBMSs) as the market for software products that store and manipulate data, and that are primarily delivered as software as a service (SaaS) in the cloud. The Gartner Peer Insights “Voice of the Customer” synthesizes Gartner Peer Insights reviews into insights for buyers of technology and services.

Vendors placed in the upper-right “Customers’ Choice” quadrant of the “Voice of the Customer” have scores that meet or exceed the market average for both axes (User Interest and Adoption, and Overall Experience).

As of March 2025, PingCAP was the only vendor out of all eligible vendors to receive the highest overall peer rating of 4.9 stars out of 5. Across 165 reviews, PingCAP received 97% of Willingness to Recommend from customers and high scores for its Product Capabilities, Sales Experience, Deployment Experience and Support Experience.

“It is very performant and reliable, which is fundamental for companies like ours that serve millions of requests per second,” one reviewer wrote.

“TiDB is fully compatible with MySQL, making it easy to transition MySQL databases to TiDB for fast and cost-effective application migration. This product provides excellent performance, fully meets the operational requirements of the business, and provides a low-latency performance experience,” commented another.

In addition to self-managed options, PingCAP offers fully managed TiDB cloud services that combine MySQL compatibility with hyperscale performance, allowing businesses to run transactional workloads, real-time analytics and AI applications on the same platform, accelerating development, simplifying maintenance, improving analytics and reducing costs.

“Receiving peer-recognition as a Customers’ Choice affirms the strategic bets we’ve made in providing a cloud-native, scalable, and developer-first database platform,” said Max Liu, CEO of PingCAP. “This isn’t just a testament to the work we’ve been doing behind the scenes; it’s validation that our vision is making a meaningful impact, and we’ll continue to develop new capabilities and features that align with helping businesses move forward.”
