SUNNYVALE, Calif., April 24, 2025PingCAP, the developer of the distributed SQL database solution TiDB, has received a Gold Stevie® Award for its TiDB 8.5 product in the American Business Awards’® Big Data & Reporting Analytics Solution category.

PingCAP is the creator of TiDB, a unified database platform for transactions, real-time analytics and AI applications. It combines the scalability and performance of NoSQL systems with the reliability and consistency of a transactional database, making it an ideal foundation for hyperscale SaaS companies. Companies like Pinterest, Plaid, and Bolt rely on TiDB to support their most demanding applications.

Last year, PingCAP launched TiDB 8.5 with a new signature feature: Vector search, which empowers applications such as Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), recommendation systems and natural language processing. The release makes TiDB a powerful tool for AI-driven enterprises while eliminating the need for additional databases or technical stacks. TiDB enables engineering teams to run transactional workloads, real-time analytics and AI applications on the same platform, helping fast-growing companies accelerate development, simplify maintenance, improve analytics and reduce costs.

Key features of TiDB 8.5 include:

  • Global Indexes for Partitioned Tables: Enhances retrieval efficiency for non-partitioned columns and removes the requirement for unique keys to include partition keys.
  • Enhanced Monitoring and Insights: Integrated CPU time metrics for TiKV and TiDB into system tables, allowing for more effective monitoring and diagnostics of resource consumption.
  • Resource Control Enhancements: Privilege controls for resource group management and setting maximum resource usage limits for background tasks ensure cluster stability and efficient resource utilization.

“Enterprises don’t have to choose between speed, scalability and operational simplicity in their SQL database,” said Max Liu, CEO of PingCAP. “TiDB 8.5 is engineered to meet the demands of modern workloads, offering a unified hyperscale solution that can handle transaction processing, real-time analytics and AI applications.”
