Key Takeaways
- TiDB Cloud Dedicated on Microsoft Azure is Generally Available, with a 99.99% uptime SLA and three-AZ resilience at parity with our AWS and GCP environments.
- Available today in Japan East and East US 2, with additional Azure regions on request.
- Purchasable through the Azure Marketplace, with billing against committed Azure spend.
For teams standardized on Azure, distributed SQL has been a tradeoff. Stay on managed SQL Server or Azure Database for MySQL and live with single-instance scale ceilings. Step outside Azure to get horizontal scale.
Today, TiDB Cloud Dedicated on Microsoft Azure is Generally Available (GA), which removes that tradeoff. After nearly a year of public preview, Azure deployments run with a 99.99% uptime SLA, three-AZ resilience, and the same SRE-managed operations as our AWS and GCP environments.
What GA Adds on Top of Public Preview
When we launched TiDB Cloud Dedicated on Azure in public preview last July, the message was clear: Teams standardized on Azure shouldn’t have to compromise on their database infrastructure. GA changes what we’re on the hook for. Public preview validated the platform on Azure infrastructure: Features behaving correctly, performance holding up, and operations handling real workloads. GA means full production support, parity with our AWS and GCP environments, and the 99.99% uptime SLA we’ll be measured against.
TiDB Cloud now runs on major global cloud platforms including AWS, Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure, and Alibaba Cloud. For teams running multi-cloud architectures, or for organizations evaluating cloud portability, the same managed TiDB experience is available wherever the workload lives.
Proven in Production
GA isn’t just a label. Over the public preview period, TiDB Cloud Dedicated on Azure went through the same validation we ran for AWS and GCP: Comprehensive functional testing, multi-week stability runs, and chaos engineering across node failures, AZ failures, and network partitions. The platform now ships with the same reliability and performance characteristics we maintain on AWS and GCP, fully supported on Azure.
Region Availability
TiDB Cloud Dedicated on Azure GA is available in the following regions:
- Japan East: For workloads serving the Japanese market.
- East US 2: For North American Azure deployments.
These regions bring our footprint to more than 30 deployment options across major clouds, giving teams flexibility for latency, data residency, and regional failover requirements.
If you need TiDB Cloud Dedicated in other Azure regions, contact us. We add regions based on customer demand.
What’s Included at GA
The GA release delivers the full TiDB Cloud Dedicated experience on Azure with the core capabilities enterprises need to run mission-critical workloads.
- High availability: Three-AZ deployment with a 99.99% uptime SLA, the same target we maintain on AWS and GCP.
- Independent scaling for compute and storage: TiDB scales horizontally without manual sharding or application rewrites. Add TiKV nodes to grow storage, add TiDB nodes to grow compute.
- HTAP powered by TiFlash: HTAP (hybrid transactional/analytical processing) means TiDB serves OLTP and analytical queries on the same cluster. TiFlash adds a columnar replica that runs alongside the row-based TiKV store: analytical queries hit TiFlash, and OLTP queries hit TiKV. No ETL, no separate warehouse, no impact on transactional latency.
- Managed operations: Our SRE team handles upgrades and patching.
- Backup and point-in-time recovery: Continuous backups and point-in-time recovery (PITR) for any timestamp within the retention window.
- Observability: Monitoring, diagnostics, and alerting at parity with our AWS and GCP environments.
- Security: RBAC, audit logging, CMEK, end-to-end encryption (in-flight and at rest), and network isolation via VPC peering and private endpoints.
- Data movement: Bulk import via TiDB Cloud’s import service, real-time replication with TiCDC, and migration from MySQL or other sources via Data Migration (DM).
- Azure Marketplace: Purchase through the Azure Marketplace and bill against existing Azure committed spend.
Distributed SQL on Azure, Without the Tradeoffs
For organizations standardized on Azure for compliance, identity, and operations, the database choice has been constrained: Managed MySQL or SQL Server with single-node scale ceilings, or distributed SQL on a different cloud. TiDB Cloud Dedicated GA on Azure removes that constraint.
You get distributed SQL’s horizontal scale, high availability, and HTAP performance. It’s delivered as a managed service that fits inside your existing Azure account, billing, and networking. Whether you’re migrating from MySQL, building SaaS platforms, or running real-time analytics on transactional data, TiDB on Azure runs the workload on Azure infrastructure.
