We’re excited to announce the TiDB FutureApp Hackathon kicking off on June 6, 2023. This global community event provides an opportunity for developers everywhere to collaborate and develop exciting applications on TiDB, an advanced, open-source, distributed SQL database with MySQL compatibility. With a prize pool exceeding $36k US and an array of latest TiDB swag for winners, this Hackathon is all set to celebrate creativity and innovation.
In addition to prizes, Hackathons provide opportunities for developers to build their network with like-minded developers and get hands-on experience with the latest technologies. We’ve seen a lot of developers include their Hackathon artifacts to their professional portfolio (e.g., in their CV’s, LinkedIn profiles, etc.), which can help with their future career opportunities.
Another perk of this Hackathon is that you can develop your application leveraging TiDB Serverless, the fully-managed, autonomous, database-as-a-service (DBaaS) offering of TiDB. It provides developers the flexibility to effortlessly scale their TiDB Cloud infrastructure as per demand. You can find a good demonstration of this in this blog post, which details how OSS Insight was able to benefit from TiDB Serverless. We can’t wait to see what our community members will be able to develop on TiDB Serverless during the next few months.
For this Hackathon, you will have the opportunity to form teams of up to 4 people. Alongside the application, you will need to submit a demo video and the link to your code on GitHub. You will have until July 28 to submit your entries. We will announce the 60 finalists on August 3. Finalists can then refine their work for final submission on August 6. The Hackathon winners will be announced on August 15.
Communications and support during the hackathon will be provided through Discord. In addition, we’re planning on-line meetups to help Hackathon participants generate Hackathon project ideas and learn more TiDB Serverless use cases in the coming weeks. Find more about these events and other resources (e.g., developer guide, sample applications, public data sets, etc.) on the Hackathon Resources page.
Sign up for the TiDB FutureApp Hackathon today at http://tidbhackathon2023.devpost.com. Although July 28 may seem far away, the sooner you sign up and form your team, the more time you will have to gain experience with TiDB Serverless and develop your applications!
